Tom Oliver BA MUS, ORMTA, NATS, CAEA

Tom is in high demand as a voice teacher, adjudicator and voice production technician. His studio, Voice Concepts, (Hamilton, Oakville, and Toronto) has prepared and trained young singers for Universities and Colleges throughout North America. He is privileged to have trained artists with the Shaw and Stratford Festivals (Kiss Me Kate, Evita, 42nd Street, Jesus Christ Super Star, Pirates of Penzance, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown Tommy and Fiddler on the Roof), Broadway (Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages, The American Idiot) Dancap (Billy Elliot) Mirvish Production (The Railway Children, Once, Kinky Boots) Drayton Productions (Spelling Bee, The Wizard of Oz, Footloose, High School Musical, South Pacific) Theatre Aquarius (Buddy Holly, A Christmas Carol, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins) GADZ Productions (The Pied Piper, Honk, and High School Musical, Robin Hood).

In 2004, Tom was invited to join the Voice Faculty at Sheridan College Music Theatre Division. His duties with this prolific Bachelor of Music Theatre program includes both private tutorials and Class room work concentrating on voice production. In 2012 Sheridan’s Theatre Prep Division included Tom on their professor roster teaching Voice and Music.

Tom is a graduate of The San Francisco Conservatory of Music (BA.MUS). Previous schools of music and performance training: Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music, Banff School of Fine Arts, Johansenn International School of Music (Victoria B.C) Actors Institute (Los Angeles). He has appeared as principal artist with Opera Piccola (Victoria BC) Palo Alto, Sacramento, Vancouver, Edmonton Opera Companies, and the Canadian Opera Company, Music Theatre with Theatre Plus, Winnipeg Rainbow Stage. Tom is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, Voice and Speech Trainers Association and The Canadian Actors Equity Association.

Teaching however, has always been Tom’s priority. Researching and training with international artists and seven years post graduate pedagogical studies with Mr. Jaap Teer (Amsterdam Conservatory of Music/Vancouver BC) along with twenty-five years of practical work acknowledges this fact.

Tom’s teaching is “student-centric” providing each young artist with memorable tools to access authentic and healthy vocal expression.
